Tiracol is one of the small islands, located in the northernmost part of Goa. It is one of the few islands in Goa which is not crowded with tourists and it is an estuary where the river meets the Arabian Sea offering some breath taking views to the travelers. This island originally belonged to the rulers of the Bhonsale Dynasty and it is known mainly for the Tiracol Fort.

History of Tiracol Fort

This fort was built by the Marathas and it was captured by the Portuguese in 1776. Tiracol Fort later used by freedom fighters during the Goa freedom struggle in 1961. The fort houses a 100 year old chapel and it also houses Trinity Church which is an ancient church. But the fort now has been converted into a hotel, which is one of the famous places of tourist attractions.
